The San Jose joint library in California, USA provides a powerful bonded site to deliver services for lifelong learning. Academics and public librarians work side by side seamlessly, helping users from the general community as well as from the university campus to meet their learning objectives with this state-of-the-art facility.

由於社會信息結構變化、計算機網路普遍以及多媒體時代來臨，“信息社會”已成為社會發展之必然趨勢；同時，也對大學圖書館在資源建設、信息提供、用戶服務、管理方式等層面均產生巨大衝擊。本文主要以二十一世紀大學圖書館所具備之特徵，說明其應有之智能化、信息社會化、現代化及數位化等功能，並指出其未來在行政管理、資源建設、自動化發展和館員素質等方面都將面臨挑戰。

With the change of information structure, the popularity of computer networks, and the advent of multimedia age, “information society” has led a tendency for social development; in the meantime, is also making dramatic waves of impact on collection development, information providing, user service, and management for academic libraries. This article mainly intends to address four functions of academic libraries based on their characteristics in the 21th century, which are intelligent systemization, information socialization, modernization, and digitalization. Besides, the author points out future challenges in administrative management, collection development, automated systems, and staff qualifications should be confronted.

大學圖書館主要目的在於支援教學和研究，尤其在資訊發達之今日，如何能更有效地組織、利用資訊，將是一門重要課題。為增快使用者掌握所需資訊的速度，針對其需求施予圖書館利用指導是必要的，若想將其效用發揮極致，也必須對圖書館利用指導本身進行評鑑，以瞭解使用者真正的需求和實施步驟的優缺點。本文即針對大學圖書館中，所實施的利用指導教育類型、方式加以說明，並討論可行的評鑑步驟。

User instruction is important in academic libraries. With the increasing emphasis on active learning in university setting, many academic libraries have devoted considerable resources in teaching potential library users how to locate information efficiently. This paper first focuses on the definition and the nature of the term ‘user instruction’ and then discusses its importance and process of evaluation.

圖書館評鑑是行政與管理程序中重要步驟之一。然而，績效評估在學術圖書館之施行，因理論抽象和步驟繁瑣而推行不易；因此本文介紹三本學術圖書館績效評估之實用手冊，作為學術圖書館實施績效評估之參考。

Library evaluation is very important in the administrative and management process of a library. But due to the abstract in theory and complexity in practice, the academic library is very difficult to implement it. This paper introduces three books to be used as working manuals to implement the performance measurement in academic libraries.

擬從使用者的角度去探討大學圖書館組織與服務之若干問題，以國立臺灣大學農學院的教授及博、碩士生為調查對象，由其資訊尋求行為及對圖書館服務的期望，探討以使用者為中心的大學圖書館之必要條件，使大學圖書館能提供專業及個人化的服務。綜合文獻及調查結果，提出若干建議供大學圖書館服務的參考，以達支援教學及研究的目標。

This study aims primarily at research into certain service issues in academic libraries. Questionnaires were sent to professors and graduate students of the College of Agriculture, National Taiwan University, as samples for surveying users' behavior and service expectations. The library will use the results of this investigation for all aspects of library planning, especially in terms of service patterns. It is hoped that the academic library can provide satisfactory, professional and personalized services to the users. This paper proposes several suggestions for supporting teaching and research in the community.

以知識作為資本來發展經濟的時代裡，延伸資訊管理為知識管理並且把知識轉換為生產力的機制，是學術圖書館的專業職責。學術圖書館服務行銷理念的實踐應由內而外，圖書館管理者與館員對學術圖書館的核心價值與願景(促進館務，整合資源，與服務社會等)先建立共識。學術圖書館要做好服務的行銷，前提是先做好質與量的圖書館管理，且由上而下，明確任務，先行規劃，制定策略。學術圖書館資訊服務行銷組合運作前，應先研究及瞭解資訊消費者與資訊市場產銷狀況，亦即先做市場研究、消費者研究、與服務環境的研究，以便為學術圖書館資訊消費者提供適時、適地、適當，且符合經濟效益的資訊服務。學術圖書館資訊服務應「以客為尊」，著重於資訊消費者的個人化及個別化要求，資訊服務的實施更應有團隊精神以落實服務行銷理念。

In an era of knowledge economy, the major task for academic library is to transfer knowledge management and expand information management. Academic libraries should consider promoting library services, integrating resources as well as providing services for the society as their core-value and vision. To achieve this, the author suggests that a well-planned library management based on the findings from their market research and consumer research is essential. Thus, while the marketing of the library services is executed by a top-down approach, a team effort, the service offered by the academic library should be individualized information needs.

對於學術圖書館而言，文獻傳遞服務的重要性不可言喻。由於科技的演進，使得使用文獻傳遞服務愈來愈方便，不但服務型態、方式多樣，也衍生出著作權問題。

Document delivery service has become extremely popular and important, especially for academic libraries. The rapid development of modern technology has made document delivery much more convenient than ever, with various service types, but problems of copyright also arise.
