Cataloging in Publication (CIP) is a free cooperative venture between publishers and libraries which enables books to be catalogued before they are published. Since January 1976, Canada began implementation of the CIP program of a decentralized system. Currently, the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is responsible for overall coordination and management of the implementation of CIP program. In recent years, LAC further implements resources of CIP to appear in "New Books Service (NBS)", an online service showcasing new Canadian publications. NBS is an enhancement to the CIP program. From the past and future of a CIP program, management, practices, characteristics of a CIP program, this article mainly discusses the mechanism of CIP services which have been implemented more than thirty years in Candian sufficiently and successfully. In conclusion, the author will advise some rustic opinions of enhancement and improvement of CIP service in Taiwan.
