Traditionally, an academic library's primary mission is to augment teaching and research. In recent years, several academic libraries, however, have set up functional spaces embedded with casual atmosphere, aiming to attract potential users. This study first reviewed related literature, followed by semi-structured interviews. 76 in-library
users from 15 academic libraries were recruited as the subjects. Their perspectives regarding functionality of academic libraries were explored.
