「參考晤談」之目的，是為了讓參考館員能夠釐清讀者真正的資訊需求，以提供正確、有意義的資訊。該過程往往涉及多元複雜的層面，因此館員必須善用溝通的技巧，才能在浩瀚的資訊洪流中找到滿足讀者需求的資訊。為了解館員與讀者在參考晤談過程中的溝通本質，本文將從參考晤談的哲理性研究出發，先談參考晤談之溝通理論與模式，其次討論實際晤談時的溝通技巧與溝通障礙；最末探討電子傳播方式對參考晤談的影響，思考館員如何在無法與讀者面對面接觸的電子化環境中，仍能釐清讀者需求，達到參考晤談的目的。

The main purpose of “Reference Interviews” is to help librarians understand users’ actual information needs and then provide correct and meaningful information. Reference librarians have to make good use of communicating skills, so that they may satisfy users’ different needs. The article attempts to investigate Reference Interview from both theoretical and practical point of views. First, it discusses the communication theories and models of Reference Interviews. Then, it describes the techniques and obstacles of Reference Interviews. Finally, Reference Interviews in the electronic environment are examined, such as how to interview with users by e-mail or WWW.

在人類文化史上，「圖像」一直扮演相當重要的角色，而網路與多媒體技術的革新，更為圖像資訊的利用掀起高潮。雖然圖像資訊的表現形式已隨科技進步日漸豐富，但圖書館在圖像資訊之描述與分析方面卻仍未有突破。在網路充斥著大量多元的圖像資訊時，圖書館界實有必要針對「如何有效描述並分析圖像資訊」的議題加以探討，增加使用者檢索、利用的機會。本文將先就圖像資訊所包含的範圍說明其種類與特色；其次探討圖像資訊的實體描述與主題分析，進而為圖書館在圖像資訊的整理上提供一個思考方向。

In human cultural history, “image” has been playing a very important role. Nowadays, the innovating of Internet and multi-media techniques leads the use of images to a new era. The performance of images becomes more and more diverse with the progress in technology, but the description and analysis of them is quite insufficient. Librarians have to pay more attention to the issue on “how to effectively describe and analyze images” to help users retrieval. In this article, the author first clarifies the categories and characteristics of images and then discusses physical description and the subject analysis. In conclusion, this report provides a view of image organization to the libraries.

「隨選視訊系統」為大學圖書館利用新興科技輔助教學的重要實例；而透過系統評估準則之建立，不僅讓已建置隨選視訊系統的大學圖書館能夠瞭解日後改進方向，更為其他圖書館提供客觀之參考資源。因此，本研究即以國內五所大學圖書館為研究單位，分別從管理者與使用者觀點，瞭解大學圖書館隨選視訊系統應具備的條件，藉此建置一套實際可行的評估準則，進而為其未來發展提出若干建議。

The new technology Video on Demand system (VOD) used in university libraries has proved to be a success. An evaluation of VOD system indicates that further improvement of this new technology is needed. This paper tries to establish some criteria of evaluation for this system in terms of its users and management. The criteria provided can eventually be used for other university libraries in Taiwan.

本文旨在分析並比較台灣與美國大學或學術圖書館專業期刊之研究議題；透過對圖書資訊學專業期刊的分析，可瞭解不同國家在研究主題的特色與差異，從中國學習他國的研究經驗，作為我國圖書資訊學域未來發展的參考。因此本研究以1998至2002年間的《大學圖書館》與《College & Research Libraries》為分析對象，分別代表台灣與美國的大學或學術圖書館專業期刊；研究發現兩期刊在研究主題的比重上確實存在差異；特別是《大學圖書館》較強調「資訊科技」的研究，《College & Research Libraries》則較著重「理論與歷史」的論述。

This article is a comparative research regarding journals of academic librarianship in Taiwan and United States. By analyzing the subjects of the articles in 《University Library Journal》and《College & Research Libraries》, the researcher planed to understand the differences of research interests between the two countries. The result reveals that《University Library Journal》emphasizes information technology more while《College & Research Libraries》pays more attention to theory and history.
