The Relationship between Audio Books and Reading Habits in a Digital Era

摘要

This paper intends to investigate the relationship between reading habits and audio books under the niche market of commercial downloadable audio books. In spite of the booming market of commercial audio books, the reader experience of audio books is still an under-researched area. This is the first paper aiming to investigate how commercial audio books (not audio books for the people with visual impairment) change people’s reading habits in a digital era. The results showed that most participants would think listening to audio books can be equivalent to reading and audio books were more like supplements to printed works for them. Generally, participants in this project thought listening to audio books was more flexible than reading print books. In addition, it was found that downloadable audio books could help improve the experience of listening to audio books (e.g. bigger file space and smaller device size), but that they also brought new problems. According to the users’ experience of listening to audio books, it is recommended that suppliers adjust their pricing model of downloadable audio books to gain more sales and adopt DAISY format to provide a better navigation system for audio books users.

植基於GIS 的臺灣古典漢詩多媒體網路學習環境設計

摘要

中國古典詩歌自詩經、漢樂府、唐宋詩詞以來,一脈相傳。經過二千多年,臺灣古典漢詩仍承繼傳統,傳唱不絕,留下為數不亞於唐宋詩的臺灣古典漢詩,由在這一塊土地生長的詩人們,歌詠著這一塊土地的秀麗山川,風土民情,悲喜情感,文化內涵。清代選編《唐詩三百首》以後,成為海峽二岸青少年及兒童接觸古典詩歌的入門書,臺灣的孩子們對中國古典詩朗朗上口,卻未見過詩中所描寫的景觀。本文以在臺灣所寫的古典漢詩為範圍,選擇500 首作品,建置臺灣古典漢詩傳唱教學地理資訊網站,將作品與地理位置相結合,提供臺灣地區中小學做為臺灣古典詩歌教材。由於所選擇的作品平均分布於臺灣每一地區,各縣市鄉鎮中小學進行古典詩歌教學時,可以優先選擇自己家鄉的作品學習,引發其人親土親的情懷,古典詩歌便與孩子們成長的環境結合在一起,陪孩子們一起成長。作品選擇的原則包含:一、適合青少年及兒童程度;二、作品寫作及寫及地點兼顧臺灣每一個地區;三、作品內容涵蓋:( 一) 臺灣山川景觀及名勝古蹟、( 二)臺灣美食及農漁民生物產、( 三) 臺灣歷史風土民情習俗、( 四) 臺灣的植物。所建置的教材以臺灣古典漢詩為主,內容包含:一、臺灣古典漢詩詩作全文及語義概念類別;二、每一首詩作之閩南語吟唱的聲音資料;三、納入相關之臺灣民間歌謠故事,作為延伸閱讀的教材。

Title The Design of Multimedia Network Environment Based on Geographic Information System for Learning Classical Taiwanese Poetry

Abstract

Inheriting classical Chinese poetry passed down from The Book of Poetry, folksongs and ballads in the Han Dynasty, and poems in Tang and Song Dynasties, classical Taiwanese poetry continues with the poetic tradition that has been recited and chanted since 2000 years ago. The poets from Taiwan have versified abundant poetry to celebrate magnificent landscapes, cultural heritages, and personal sentiments for this land. Three Hundred Tang Poems compiled in the Qing Dynasty has been used in Taiwan and in Mainland China to introduce children and adolescents to Chinese versification. Nevertheless, Taiwanese children’s familiarity with classical Chinese poetry does not go far from these texts to the actual sight of the landscape. This research will select 500 classical Taiwanese poems to establish a GIS website where to connect each poem with its specific geographic location. Elementary and high school teachers can thus select relevant poems from and about that location so as to bring the poetic descriptions to reality for the learning pupils to be more emotionally and empirically attached to the selected poems. The methods of selection are based on the appropriateness for the learners of different levels as well as the comprehensiveness of locations of Taiwan described in the poetry. The subject matter will include natural landscape and historical sites in Taiwan, regional delicacies, agricultural and aquacultural environments, customs and traditions, and local flora and fauna. The GIS website will include the full text of each poem with complete annotations, the audio files of each poem recorded in Taiwanese dialect, and extended readings of Taiwanese folklore.

摘要

本研究旨在於探討臺灣地區大學圖書館特色館藏發展,透過已發展特色館藏的大學圖書館分享經驗,供擬規劃發展特色館藏的圖書館參考。本研究利用問卷調查與訪談蒐集資料,在研究結果發現:圖書館因學校性質繼承具特色的資源是最主要的特色館藏發展緣起,特色館藏的發展方式多數涵蓋在館藏發展政策中,學科主題為最常見的特色館藏類別,館舍空間是影響圖書館發展特色館藏的重要因素,建立特色館藏的優點是提升館藏的質量,但卻可能忽略一般館藏發展。同一所圖書館可能會以數種方式管理特色館藏且多數會限制僅在館內利用,但使用權利不因身分別而有所差異,圖書館最常透過自身網站來推廣館內的特色館藏。

Title A Study of the Development of Special Collections in Taiwan’s University Libraries

Abstract

This research attempts to investigate the development of special collections in Taiwan’s university libraries. The data were collected through conducting semi-structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The findings of this research are as follows: The main reason that contributes to the development of special collections is the inheritance of existing resources. In many libraries, the collection development policies cover special collections development. The most common development type of special collections is its subject disciplines, while the major factor that influences the development of special collections is library space. The biggest incentives for developing special collections are the prospect of enhancing the general quality and quantity of the collection. However it may lead to the neglect of the development of general collections. Each library uses a different management style, and the same library may have a number of different styles. Most libraries provide equal access to their special collections for both internal and external patrons, but they are almost always limited to library use only. Using library website is the most common way for a library to promote its special collections.

The research aims to evaluate the usability of Taipei Public Library and Chicago Public Library websites by means of heuristic evaluation. There are 10 evaluators invited from Taiwan and the United States to find the usability problems of both websites. The research also examines whether the goals of both public libraries have been met. Both of the websites have two major usability problems and most problems are minor or cosmetic. Briefly, the objectives of both public libraries have met the provision of services on the interfaces of the websites although there are a number of usability problems. The value of HE discovery is approved with respect to the process and results since it is indeed a cheap, quick and effective method. Finally, the recommendations for both websites are made and the results and conclusions could be applied to other metro public library websites.

發展性繪本書目療法與大學生之情緒療癒

摘要

相關文獻指出,閱讀具有情緒療癒效用之圖書資訊資源,可舒緩當事者的負面情緒,而繪本則是大學生較常選用之非小說類閱讀素材。基此,本研究透過網路內容分析法,於網路書評中尋找合適之繪本素材,分析其對大學生之情緒療癒效用,並於文中列舉13 本繪本示例,藉供同道參考。期冀藉由本研究結果,使大學生了解繪本書目療法的意涵,並培養閱讀情緒療癒繪本的習慣;另一方面,亦希冀透過本研究結果,能引起大學圖書館關注大學生潛在的療癒閱讀需求。如此,大學圖書館可更進一步地充分善用館藏資源的療癒性功能,協助大學生維持與促進個人之心理健康,從而得以善盡圖書館的社會責任。

Title Developmental Bibliotherapy with Picture Books for Undergraduates’ Emotional Healing

Abstract

Literatures have shown that reading can serve as a therapeutic intervention to help people recover from uneasiness. Among various non-fiction reading materials, picture books are popular with undergraduates. Therefore, this study employs internet content analysis to search adequate picture books for emotionally disturbed undergraduates. 13 picture books are listed as examples of proper emotional healing reading materials. The findings can better undergraduates’ understanding of bibliotherapy and help them handle emotional disturbance problems by means of reading emotional healing picture books. Besides, this study may also promote the engagement of university libraries to bibliotherapy. Thus university libraries could help undergraduates maintain and improve their mental health, so as to accomplish university libraries’ social responsibility to the utmost.

本研究藉由任務取向之系統易用性評估方式,觀察有系統使用經驗者與無系統使用經驗者檢索過程發生問題之差異,並輔以問卷調查方式,比較不同背景經驗者對於系統滿意度之看法,研究設計以檔案管理局建置之「國家檔案資訊網」進行系統檢索、瀏覽、結果顯示、調閱申請與個人化服務等功能實測,以探究不同使用經驗者與系統互動之情況,以瞭解使用經驗對於系統介面設計之影響。

Abstract

This study conducts task-based usability testing to observe users’perspectives of online finding aids. The exploratory study focuses on the experience of novice and experienced users with online finding aids. Questionnaires in this study are designed to measure the difference of system satisfaction between these two group users after testing. We use National Archives Access Service System, established by National Archives
administration in Taiwan, to investigate the usability questions about search, navigation, display, access and personal service function of online system. This study provides insights regarding how novice and experienced users navigate archival information system differently. Based on this study, we can further explore how users’ experiences have impacts on system usability.

我國大學校院校史館建置與管理現況調查分析

摘要

本文係採用問卷法分析我國大學校院校史館建置及其經營管理現況,問卷調查重點在於瞭解各校校史館之設置與命名、行政隸屬與營運、人員與館舍、館藏與管理、數位化與加值應用等面向問題。問卷調查以普查方式,總計發放162份,回收有效問卷95 份。研究發現各校設置校史館比例僅及一半,其行政隸屬多在祕書室或圖書館之下,預算與人力資源不夠,校史館典藏與管理制度有待健全,對於校史資料檢索與展覽推廣觀念,仍待加強。根據研究結果提出我國大學校院校史館未來發展相關建議。

Title A Survey on the Planning and Management of University Archivesin Taiwan

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to examine the current planning and management of university archives in Taiwan. This survey focuses on various aspects concerning university archives such as the establishment, nomenclature, administrative subordination, operation, personnel, premises, collection, management, digitalization and value-added applications. The 162 questionnaires were mailed to all the universities in Taiwan, while 95 valid questionnaires were returned. The results show that (1) nearly half of the universities set up the university archives, (2) concerning the administrative structure, university archive usually belongs to the secretariat or library, (3) the budget and personnel are insufficient, (4) the collection and management need to be improved, (5)the access to university archives should be more user-friendly, and (6) the exhibition of university archives need to be strongly promoted. Finally, this study proposes suggestions of how to develop and manage university archives in the future.
